Beacon Funk and Jazz

STM, in association with the Seattle Peace Concerts and the Seattle Parks Department, is bringing music to Jefferson Park on Beacon Hill. Don’t miss this FREE park concert with some of the PNW’s best bands, including: Planet FlyContempoThe 350sNrGNosretep and more. The Beacon of Funk and Jazz will be serving up the rhythmic groove to light the waves…don’t miss it!

Beacon Hill Meaningful Movies screens inspiring documentaries on 3rd Fridays of the month. Free movies, free popcorn too! Our August screening is Amandla! A revolution in 4 part Harmony.  Come learn the history of resistance to the apartheid system of South Africa and how music and song forged a bond of solidarity amongst people of different backgrounds, young and old. The film was 9 years in the making and won the audience award at the Sundance Film Festival–come see why.

Thanks for the heads up from Catherine Graham via Beaconhill list serve: “If you’ve never seen it, you should try it out. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere, very entertaining acting, and totally FREE! (Donations heartily accepted, of course.)”

Build a Park at Bayview Triangle!

Come out for a work party on Beacon Hill’s newest park! Join the Seattle Tree Ambassadors, Beacon Arts and your neighbors in renovating the traffic triangle at 15th Ave and Beacon Ave S. Help take the first steps towards creating a wonderful landscape that all will enjoy, by helping pick-up trash, weed, and mulch. Meet at the Shell Station on Beacon Ave & 15th at 9 am. Tools, gloves, safety vests, and snacks will be provided. This is the first phase of on-going efforts to clean up this area and enhance that end of our business district with art and pedestrian amenities.

Jefferson Park Jubilee

OpeningCelebration_Poster2014_webGet ready for the third annual Jefferson Park Jubilee! We have lined up a world music stage, community dance groups, food trucks and booths, craft vendors, informational tables, speakers and tours, kids projects and games. This year the Jubilee is proud to collaborate with the Beacon Food Forestʼs Opening Celebration, making ‘official’ the creation of permaculture gardens in Jefferson Park. At nightfall there will be an outdoor cinema showing “The Avengers” sponsored by the Jefferson Advisory Council. This popular community festival, produced by the Beacon Hill Merchants Association, will begin at noon that Saturday and run until the park closes. Jefferson Park is located at 3801 Beacon Av S. and is just a ten minute walk from the Beacon Hill light rail station.
