More than food on our minds…

Has it been awhile since you’ve chosen Beacon Hill as your ‘dinner out’ destination? Did you know our very own El Quetzal serves up some of the best tacos pescados (fish tacos) in town? The current spotlight on Beacon Hill restaurants, like today’s Seattle Times Dining Out and the recent Seattle Met article, make the Beacon Hill Merchants Association want to celebrate!

Come out on Saturday, October 29th for dinner on the town. The Beacon Hill Merchants Association is sponsoring The Beacon Boogie: Five bands in five venues for five dollars. No charge for kids 12 and under. All venues on Beacon Ave. S. within a half block of S. Handford Street.

Start the evening with chef Jerry Corso’s delectable pizza and gypsy jazz with Trio Zazou at Bar del Corso from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Then from 7:00 to 10:00 pm four other venues will host a range of Cuban son, folk and jazz. SuperSones plays El Quetzal, and ChoroLoco will help kick off the Almendra Sandoval Photography Exhibition next door at Quetzalcoatl Gallery. Abe’s Cuts & Kicks will be open too – drop in for a quick hair cut – then stop in for Trio Á Propos‘ special style of jazz at Kusina Filipina. Top the evening off with a hot drink and the Greg Ruby Trio at Victrola Coffee Roasters.

Come visit our new office

After much negotiating, we’ve finally moved into our new office space!   We’re in the former Neighborhood Service Center attached to the library, some very nice digs that we want to make available to the community as the Beacon Hill Resource Center.    We’ll be able to host meetings, provide an information exchange, answer questions and work on all our projects out of this new space.   We’re working together with the Beacon Hill Council to make this an active community resource, and increase staffing.    Summer hours are right now limited to Friday 10-1; hours will increase in the fall.

Beacon Hill Merchants receive Impact Capital grant

We’ve just been told that we’ve received a grant for 2011 that will help us hire a staffer, fund small projects, and help build the organization. This is an exciting development for the Merchants Association, and will help us reach the many businesses on Beacon Hill who have no unifying representation, and to find out how we can help them serve our community. Our hope this year is to begin building a data base of every business and commercial property owner on Beacon Hill, to fund a beautification project such as banners in the commercial core, and to start a beatwalk by the end of the summer. And that’s just for starts! Please get involved if you, your business or your neighbors would like to see a stronger commercial district on Beacon Hill!
