Not to be missed in August

8-18 Tamale Making Classes Offered by El Centro de la Raza – Have you always wanted to learn how to make tamales? Now is your chance to learn from a master tamalera! To register for a Tamale Class, please visit Brown Paper Tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/99818, call (206) 957-4611 or email development@elcentrodelaraza.org. The Saturday, August 18th class runs from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM in El Centro’s kitchen (2524 16th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144). Class fee:  $75 per class – includes recipe and one dozen tamales. Class fees support El Centro’s Senior Wellness Program and Senior Home Delivered Meal Program. Please register in advance.

8-21 ROCKiT Family Free For All – at Garden House 2336 – 15th Ave. South. This is “a kid-friendly alternative to happy hour… a monthly social-time with music and arts for all families.” To learn more hit the link http://www.rockitspace.org/family-free-for-all.html.

8-24 Outdoor Cinema at Jefferson Park This is a free event sponsored by the Jefferson Advisory Council. Bring the family, a blanket, and weather appropriate clothing for this G-rated film from 1977. Screening starts at dusk (i.e., the movie will start when it is dark enough, hopefully by 9pm at the latest) and will be held in the north end of the park, likely the amphitheater area. There will be refreshments available for purchase. 8-26 Beacon Rocks! From 1-5pm on Roberto Maestas Festival Street, next to Beacon Hill Light Rail Station. This is the last one of this excellent summer music series, where you can skip, hop and dance to local/regional performers, eat yummy food from our neighborhood food vendors, and stop over for treats at The Station Coffee Cafe.
